Learn How To Prepare For Your First Wax

Posted on: 6 June 2016

Getting waxed for the first time can be very nerve-wracking because you do not know what to expect. You more than likely have seen many shows on television that portray the experience as being very painful, but it is not overly painful for every person who experiences it. The guide below walks you through a few ways you can prepare for waxing to help make the process as painless as it can possibly be.

Drink Plenty of Water Before Waxing

Before you go in for your waxing appointment, be sure to drink plenty of water so that you are well hydrated when you get waxed. Well hydrated skin has more elasticity than dehydrated skin. Having hydrated skin will decrease the amount of time it takes for your skin to recover after each strip of wax is removed.

Do Not Put on Lotion the Day of Your Wax Appointment

Before going to your waxing appointment, you will need to take a shower. When you get out of the shower, do not put on any lotions. The lotion can make your skin slippery and cause the wax not to grip the hairs as well as it would if there was no lotion on them. When you take your shower, try not to use scented body wash either because the chemicals that create the scent you enjoy, could cause your skin to be irritated when the pores are opened after the hairs are removed.

Wait Until the Hairs Are Long Enough to Grasp Easily

When you go in to be waxed, you need to make sure that your hairs are long enough for the wax to grab easily. If your hairs are only a millimeter or two long, the wax will not be able to grab them easily because there is not enough hair sticking out of your skin. Your waxer should be able to let you know exactly how long he or she thinks your hairs should be in order for the wax to adhere to the hairs as firmly as possible.

Once the waxing has finished, the technician will put some soothing lotion on the waxed areas to soothe some of the irritation and pain that you may be feeling. The entire process takes a very short time to finish and will leave you with silky smooth skin that looks great and feels even better. You will need to be waxed every few weeks, if you want to keep up with the look. Companies like Cole's Salon can provide more information.
